Thats wonderful news, shame the everyday workers will lose there jobs, but great to see this abhorrent organization suffering (rather than profiteering from others suffering)

Ups I have seen another article about this tax, and it is correct that the foreign tobacco companies can sell a pack of cigarettes for 60 bath and the local brand is 85 Bath for a pack. When the intention has been to get more tax money or to make it more expensive to smoke, well they shut themselves in the foot, since now you can already buy a pack of cigarettes for 60 bath cheaper than before the new "higher"tax. I guess the creators of this law aren't to happy today. And Yes @Siam Diesel the Thai tobacco Monopoly really deserve it :)

Like everywhere in the world.... big tobacco companies have the money power and influence, they'll find an empty sunny place in the thai law for them and smile. Thai tobacco workers will have to find an other cultivation. TTM will get the taxes where ever the tobacco comes from and smile .......until they'll see tons of illegal cigarettes arriving in Thailand.
It was written 3 or 4 years ago that in France , 30 percent of the smoked cigarettes in the country were not taxed (Spain, Belgium etc...).
