    Seems the cash-strapped government is really looking to increase it's coffers. An article from Thai PBS states how customs will start inspecting more and more small packages in order to charge tax/duty/VAT/etc. But the real gem from the article is this:

    I'm not sure that it's a good way to make money,
    Is there a lot of high value free of tax items in the luggage of the passengers? and for with annual value?
    bourbon 12 old aged, Camembert : yes but not sure. nicotine: not any more, people know the Thai prohibition. cigarettes: just joking. electronic component?

    At least one person at the government must see how ridiculous they look when they are trying to make us believe they want to fight against fake goods and illegal import of merchandise.
