I find this is the best flavor as well as vapor I can get out of a genesis. It also stops the leakage problem.

First, start off making a steel mesh wick as you normally would. (Which is to roll it, and then oxidize it with a torch). After it is done, take some cotton, put one end of the wick into the cotton and turn the wick. The cotton will stick to the steel mesh.

Second step, wrap a micro coil and set it up on the atomizer

BEFORE YOU PUT IN THE MESH WICK CHECK THE COILS BY PLACING IN AN OHM METER AND DRY FIRING TO MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO HOT SPOTS.

Third step, slide the steel mesh into the micro coils, with the cotton end making contact with the coils. The tension of the cotton in the microcoils will hold up the mesh in place.

Step four, trim the mesh wick (so that the top of atomizer can fit) and then drench the cotton with juice (like from a dropper).

    Now it's ready to use.

    Would rope work like this?

If I understand the question, yes it would. You would replace the steel mesh with rope, but you would still have to wrap kanthal wire over the top of it to vaporize the juice. I suppose you could also put cotton between the rope and the coils as I did here. I have never tried ss rope (because it is hard to find, and seems like it would be a pain to cut to desired size--like you'd have to use a dremel or something strong enough to cut steel rope). I'm happy with the mesh, especially when there is cotton on it too. I found just coils over the steel mesh, the taste was too harsh for my liking. The cotton softens it.

All I used was the Genesis style before I got on the Kayfuns, and I'm a big fan of the SS rope wicks. Yes, you need a dremel (or special wire rope cutter) to cut it without fraying, but the plus side is they wick faster and last forever. You cut the rope to size and wrap the coil end with a layer of mesh. The mesh eventually wears out, but great flavor from this setup. I would never use cotton on the end though (tried it though) because you lose the ability to dry burn, which to me is really important with a Genesis. By the end of a tank, a Genesis will almost always have gotten a little hotspot because the wick will slightly move, so a quick dry burn and poking the coils is necessary to get it back up to 100%. Honestly, the flavor and vapor on a good Genesis setup will kick a Kayfun's ass in flavor and vapor production, but all the fiddling and the fact you can't lay one on its side without leaking is what kept me from going back.

Well with the cotton wedged between the steel mesh and the coils, there is no leaking issue at all. The juice spills by going through the funnel created by the mesh. With the cotton there it plugs up so juice cannot flow out to leak.

And the dry burn is possible. Simply pull out the mesh wicks from the microcoil. Once that is done, just dry burn to get alot of gunk off. The wicks are reusable. Just wrap them in cotton and put them back in your microcoils.

Ahh, I always leave the fill hole open, in fact I've never known anyone to leave it closed since it slows down the wicking so much. And when I dry burn, I let the wick get red hot as well. I wash out the tank with a syringe full of water first, cook it up, fix the hotspots, then fill. Makes it real easy to change flavors if you've got something small like a Cobra. You should really try the rope some time, its a great vape.

On the kraken, the dedicated fill hole is left open. It's just the wicking holes which are plugged. Kind of how when you are poring gasoline out of a container you have to open the vent hole in the back. With the wicking holes plugged off there is no air going in them so the juice is kept from going through the fill hole by air pressure.

On the pulse-g (that is pictured) there is no fill hole on it so I guess everything is plugged, but somehow the juice manages to go through the wick.

I use 1.5mm rope with a mesh sleeve under the coil - a microcoil, with mesh rolled to fit.
It works great, really smooth flavour from my Satburn22. and the rope just wicks so well.
I'd like to try cotton instead of the mesh when my Japanese cotton arrives - I was just wondering if any of you had tried this combination.
And I use cutters to cut the rope - decent ones do it ok.

Well, I had to order replacement Kayfun insulators today. The local shop I normally go to wasn't carrying them anymore, so I had to do an internet search which got me to kidneypunchers. A little digging around and it appears they recommend using a ekowool sleeve to cover the steel mesh. Wire Rope Sizes

I ordered the steel rope. I'm going to try it with cotton first before I think about the ekowool.

I tried the ekowool, but did not have any great success - probably my fault though.
The nice thing about cotton and mesh is that you can fit the wick into a previously installed microcoil, and microcoils suit me, largely because I tend to wrap coils too tightly if I do them freehand, and the wick gets strangled.
