A company decided to run a public poll on the internet to name their brand new $300 million boat. Unfortunately for the company the most popular name is "Boatey Mc Boat face" The question is whether they will name the boat according to the poll.

 

It's just an off-topic story for the lounge. (Non-vape related.) I thought the name "Boaty McBoatface" was hilarious.

Yeah, I guess I forgot that there are non-native English speakers on this forum who wouldn't quite understand. It's funny if you're a native English speaker.

Explaining it kind of detracts from the funniness of it all, but I will give a little insight into it. Large vessels, are usually called "ships", like in a battleship, warship, cruise ship, etc. A "boat" is like a "row boat". When you forgot someone's name, a common English language joke is to call him "what's his face" or "what's his name". And "Mc" is a common part of a name for someone from Scotland, and is also like "McDonald's". So in the English language, I found it very funny.

Sadly--I think that, funny though it is, it probably says more about the intellectual ability of a large chunk of the UK Public--where this survey was based, I believe.
