Mac book broken again

    So I was just using my Mac book when it froze, nothing new as it does that from time to time
    Switched it off on the button then back on again
    Next thing I have a grey screen with a flashing folder with a ? Through it

    So now having to try to sort it by using my phone's Internet with Google to follow steps, and I hate using the net off my phone

    Might have to a whole new reinstall yet again

    2 hours later back working again
    But that was stripping it down twice, un-hooking all the harddrive ribbon cables and reconnecting them
    Think that is the problem so going to order a new ribbon cable i think...

    Now it boots up but the screen stays black and doesn't come on , what a load of shit

    Feel real sorry for you.
    Had the same problem six months ago.
    The folder with a ? on it means your HD is toast.
    You will need to replace the HD.

    Yes seems a good time to swap for an SSD.

    Now you can get 250gb for 3xxxthb approx (dunno the price in UK but it might even be cheaper). If you need to clone your old HDD you have 2 options :

    Use Carbon Copy if ou hav access to another Apple computer or use an external docking with 2 HDD slots, mine makes hardware copies without having to plug it on my computer.

    Brands I recommend for SSD are :

    Samsung
    Kingston
    Apacer

    Yeah ssd is a good investment. A conventional hard drive will eventually fail. The ssd less likely to fail but if it fails you will have a hard time recovering data. I just bought a 240gb ssd for $57

    These are the 3 brands I am used to but yes Crucial SSDs are quite good also as well as other brands like Intel or Plextor.

    All brands are under 3 years warranty nowadays anyway and backups should be mandatory for anyone stocking info on a drive, no matter the type of storage you are using it is always better to be safe than sorry for your data loss.

    Bear in mind that a data recovery on any damaged media costs on average 500 - 600 Euros, you can buy a bunch of reliable backups for that price.

    Yes that's what's in mine ssd crucial

    It was a case of the ribbon cable needing replacing but now with the blank black screen on boot up it could be something more

    After more hours now the screen is back working again but the ? folder is back flashing
    Hoping the 10 quid ribbon cable I've ordered will sort it
    I'll know tomorrow when it comes and I've fitted it

    Back working now
    Spent 1 hour trying to get the yellow colour ribbon bale to pop in securely but gave up and let it just sit in there on a hair
    This is what I changed in the youtube clip
    About the 5.37 min mark he pops it out, easy to do, but he don't show popping it back in, which was what did me as i couldn't get it back in right.


    Oh well, see how long it lasts as it is, at least i know it's not all the way in so if i get the ? flashing folder again i know why.
    I've seen the whole unit complete for sale but it comes from China so might have to order that as a back up.
