Mate, I think the harshness, is down to 80% PG, ...thats a helluva kick in the throat..

Also, where from and what name of ejuice, are you vaping?

If I was using Omg, right now....I would be chain vaping....

My advice to you, would be get a 70 or 80% VG liquid, in 12mg.... to start off with...

(12mg, would with high VG content, would be kinder to the throat, a lot smoother,
and more importantly... 12mg would make you vape less....Omg at this stage, would make you vape more..)

Now.. the Melo 3 in my opinion , or any tank, that has coils, that have less than 1 ohm
,with a high mg of nicotine is not a good idea, for ta newbie to start vaping..

A good set up, for 12mg, with a tank, needs coils - higher than 1.0 ....(Melo ,I think
has coils, with 0.5 and 0.3)

Also, if you use a coil of 1.0 or higher (1.2,1.4.1.6 etc), you have to use LESS power
on your device, as it will cause the coil to break..

EG:

1.2 OHM Coil - 30watts - coil will break.. 15 w is ok
0.6 OHM Coil 30watts is ok

1.2 ohm = thin wire = less power
0.6 = thicker wire = more power

Then, when you move to less nicotine ie, 6mg or 3mg, then... I would use coils of 0.5 .or 0.3, or lower..

if you can be careful about bad copies of Chinese juice, (very often high vp juice).
I done it: harshness and I was scratching me like a monkey.

I'm vaping now 50/50 eliquid.

 

... and we are all different, not every beginner needs 12 or even 18 mg. It depends also what kind of cigarettes someone consumed before. I was using Drum tobacco, it does not have the ammonium turbo nicotine usual for industry ciga-rats, so I could start with 6 mg and was pretty quickly down to 3 mg. Now I vape just a trace for fun, 1 mg.

Than more cloud one inhales then harsher a high PG e-liquid can get. Using 1 ohm and low wattage, 80/20 PG/VG is usually fine. Unless you've got an allergy to PG.

We all have different tolerance levels, it depends what suits each individual....

Some.. like me are allergic to a high PG ratio... any ratio of PG higher than 35%,
I come out in a facial and scalp rash

 

I think than higher the volume you inhale, than more the PG can become a problem.

 

pg is problematic, some have have problem, like me; some not.
for those who don't , you look strange like a stranger
a lot of European little factory juice now use 50 pg /50 vg guaranteed product (and almost pure nicotine + pg and flavor+ Pg or else )
that mean about 60% pg maybe a little bit more or less;
I look to be more with Chinese e liquid , but I'm not professional

I have been vaping Mt Baker 50/50 0mg the last couple days and following some of your advice all I had to do is slow down a bit and everything is all good now.
so many different combinations of juice, mods, tanks, coils it is definitely confusing for a newbie but will take my time to figure it out.
no cigarettes for 16 days now and now that I slowed down the vaping I am feeling much better and way more confident.

You probably need to go down on your nicotine level. I'm at 6mg and that works well, however get serious insomnia from it when I vape well into the night (I'm a programmer)

7:00 am and I'm still up.

Oh, yeah, like many mentioned, make sure to hydrate yourself well!

 

Going on 4 years for me. I remember my first few weeks when i started vaping. Coughed up black shit went to the Doc was worried was because of my vape. Doc said its my lungs self cleaning. Week later no more coughing. I cant remember the last time i coughed other than a cold i had month ago. Vaping changed my life for the better, i was a daily hacking mess when i was sucking down those Marlboro menthol's.
