1. Welcome to Thailand Vapers, an English language forum for members in Thailand and the rest of Asia to talk about vaping.
Commonly referred to as e-cigarettes, vaping is really about the use of personal vaporizers (mods) and atomizers (tanks, clearos, RBAs, RDAs, RTAs) filled with e-liquid.

"The latest poll by renowned pollsters indicates that the US smoking rate has dropped to an all-time low"

We can all agree that smoking is just about the worst thing you can do for the long-term health of you and your loved ones. The many chemicals and toxins infiltrate the air, and new evidenceeven shows that third-hand smoke, or residual tar left on clothes and walls, can also lead to deadly diseases. As a tar-free alternative, vaping is often praised as an invaluable smoking cessation and harm reduction tool. So while some are still critical of the new devices, many smokers have found them a godsend.

In fact, plenty of new data supports the idea vaping is not only 95% safer than smoking, but also the best smoking cessation tool we have. One such poll conducted by the world-famous American pollsters, Gallup, was published last week and offers some fantastic news for the vaping industry. Their latest figures indicate that the smoking rate in the United States has dropped to only 16%, which is the lowest it’s been since polling began in 1944.

    Gallup Poll

E-cigarettes have consistently been regarded by vapers as an important key in their finally being able to quit smoking successfully. But critics have often disregarded these anecdotal pieces of evidence, instead choosing to believe that acceptance of vaping would lead to an increase in the smoking rate. That’s why this new poll by Gallup is such a big win for the vaping industry. It proves that not only is the growth of vaping not slowing or reversing the declining smoking rate, but it’s rapidly decreasing it. The effect vaping is having on the smoking rate is so strong that since 2012, when vapes first started to become widely popular, the overall smoking rate in the US has dropped by nearly 25%.

There were some other interesting findings to the Gallup report. For example, their figures indicate that the smoking rate has been fallen the most sharply among young adults, who are also the most likely to vape. This drop has been so significant that for the first time in over 60 years, middle-aged adults are more likely to be smokers than the youngest adults. For reference, in the early 2000s, 34% of young adults and 28% of middle-aged adults were smokers. But by 2018 only 15% of young adults smoke, compared with 20% of middle-aged adults, a 19% drop compared with an 8% one.

    Additional Research On Vaping

Another new survey is helping bolster the results of the Gallup poll. Researchers with the Center for Substance Use Research in Glasgow recently published a report that surveyed around 19,000 Juul users about their habit. According to their results, just under two-thirds of those who started using Juul were able to quit smoking successfully. Even half of those who didn’t entirely stop reported significantly reducing their tobacco intake by 50% to 99%.

This report also called into question claims that vaping acts as a “gateway” to traditional smoking. Of their 19,000 respondents, only 2% of respondents that had been non-smokers before picking up Juul ever started smoking regularly. That means that for every one person who started smoking, nearly 140 were able to quit for good. What’s more, the 2% figure appears to be a bit higher than average, as larger polls have found the rate of non-smokers turned smokers is only between 0.1% and 0.5%.

    Implications

It’s clear thanks to these new polls that vaping is not only an invaluable harm reduction tool, but it’s also helping end the smoking epidemic once and for all. These significant drops in smoking rate are something that was once only a dream, as was the idea that younger people could smoke less. Now we are seeing them become a reality as the smoking rate hits all-time lows. In this way, vaping has completely changed the game.

What’s more encouraging is that these results are coming from a country like the US who’s officials have been very skeptical of the harm reduction and smoking cessation benefits of vaporizers. Just think how much of an impact they could have if they were legitimized and adequately utilized instead of dismissed as merely an alternative to tobacco. If we genuinely want to live in a world that is free from toxic cigarettes, we must support the best tools we have at our disposal, especially vaping
