1. Welcome to Thailand Vapers, an English language forum for members in Thailand and the rest of Asia to talk about vaping.
Commonly referred to as e-cigarettes, vaping is really about the use of personal vaporizers (mods) and atomizers (tanks, clearos, RBAs, RDAs, RTAs) filled with e-liquid.
Are you looking to get started or an old hand at vaping? Everyone is welcome here so sign up today and talk vaping with us!

I've been following Dr Konstantinos Farsalinos for a while now, he's a top guy, on our side and here to help us as vapers as much as he can.
Often been a guest on the VT Live.
I am sure all will become clear once he's done the testing needed.

I think its pretty clear, he is trying to identify potentially dangerous chemicals. He isn't going after one in particular that he suspects to be dangerous, he is probably going to run them all through a GC/MS to find out what they actually contain. This is the type of research that is going to prevent government regulation of vaping. Right now, everyone is basically just guessing what is safe and what isn't. Dr. Farsalinos has done more work than anyone else in putting down all the shit-slingers trying to get e-cigarettes banned with ridiculous accusations, and hard scientific evidence is exactly what is needed to keep this industry unregulated.

I for one will be donating.

100% positive and needs to be done. I am concerned about sucralose at temperature, diacetyl for sure, colouring used in ejuice etc and I would rather someone on our side did it than say BIG tobacco or government agencies.

If members here are willing to contribute enough funds for me to purchase a sample of every possible popular e-liquid from every major manufacturer -- I promise to test the effects of these juices as rigorously as my lungs can manage!

    :thank you:

... but yes, despite satirizing the slightly fishy tone of the press release / funding campaign - more research is of course good!

Should we consider the donation payment method offered via that site as being safe, I wonder?

Some clarifications for this project, based on comments posted in various forums:
    1. We thank the e-cigarettes business who have offered to, but we do not accept manufacturers to send their samples, even if they offer to do it for free. We want to buy them anonymously from retailers, in order to make sure that we get the same exact samples that are available for every vaper to purchase.
    2. This is not a study ordered by the e-cigarette industry. It is our initiative, based on findings from another study in which we found some chemicals which are not good to be inhaled. This study will test samples which are likely to contain these substances.
    3. None controls or decides which liquids will be tested besides our research group. We will choose as many samples as possible, based on scientific criteria.
    4. Our goal is not to advertize the companies which do not contain these chemicals in their products or discredit those which contain them. The problem we have detected needs to be defined and needs to be confronted by the whole industry. It is highly likely that even the products which do not contain these chemicals in our tests will have them in the next production batch. We will make sure that this is clearly understood when we will present our findings.
    5. We have always supported that e-cigarettes are a revolution in tobacco harm reduction and have the potential to save millions of lives. We have additionally supported the need to provide as safe products as possible to consumers, and remove any unnecessary risk. This is the goal of this study. The industry should see this an opportunity to show responsibility towards the consumers (vapers) and improve the safety profile of the products.
    6. The study will be published in a medical journal. The magnitude of the problem will be defined and the solution will be presented. The ultimate goal is to remove unnecessary potential risk for consumers (vapers).
    7. We strongly believe that such studies should be funded by the industry and not by the consumers. It is the responsibility of the industry and not of the vapers to ensure that proper and safe products are available. However, we cannot force anyone to support this (or any other) study.
    8. We would like to thank everyone for the support. Please share this crowdfunding campaign to eveyone.
