I need some advice on batteries.

first of all--which brand to buy? There is a big difference in price.

i noticed something called high drain battery--what is that?

How long should batteries last? terms of months etc..

If i charge on up and leave it unused--will it hold that charge for ...days-weeks-months?? or will it degrade slowly?

im asking because I need to increase my stock of spares and want to get the best and most reliable batteries available

To make this as easy as possible, there are three sizes of batteries that you will use in most mods and they are from small to big; 18350, 18500 and 18650.

You should use IMR High Drain batteries and you can choose bewtween Efest, AW and Panassonic.

I use Efest 18350 because they are small and easy to carry around when out and about, but when I am at home , I use 18650.

If you use 18650 the best ones to use are Panasonic 18650 B because they are 3,400 mah (milliamp hours) Normally as a rule of thumb, 18350 are 700-900 mah, 18500 1,100 mah and 1860 2,00 mah upwards.

and that's all you need to know.

You can buy these batteries from other of the vendors in Thai-Evape and if one doesn't have them, then the other vendor probably will.

    Good luck

so to sum up...for the same size battery the more mah.. the longer it will last before recharging needed?
high drain panasonic, aw or efest--think that makes it easy for me

    thanks

Yes mate. Higher mah means longer lasting.

You can google and get all sots of explanations that will make your head spin, but i think I've covered the important stuff.

I have a tiny remark on this. If you use mechanical mods, then a 30A imr high drain battery is giving you more power, than a normal imr battery. Since you cant regulate the voltage or wattage on an mechanical mod.

Dieter - it won't give you more power. Power is measured in Watts and is a function of the Voltage on the battery and the resistance of the atomizer (watts = voltage x voltage divided by resistance) . 30A refers to the maximum current that can be safely drawn from a battery (current = voltage/resistance).

With mech mods voltage starts at 4.2 and is reduced as the battery charge diminishes. Resistance stays the same.

30A batteries are only necessary if you are going sub-ohm (resistances of less than 1.0 ohms). For anything higher than that a 10A battery is more than fine.

An example 1 ohm coil -> voltage 4.2. Therefore Current = 4.2 Amps. Well below the 10 Amp safety limit.

Abit more info for the OP:

IMR - is the chemistry. IMR is an unprotected battery type. However it is generally viewed as safer than other battery types because if it does malfunction it will vent fumes (fairly bad) instead of exploding (very bad). Most people that use mechs (safely) choose IMR batteres for this reason.

Battery brands: It's important to choose a reliable brand. AW or Efest are the two most trusted brands. Efest are cheaper. AW maybe a bit better. You could also choose some Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, or even Sanyo as long as they have the appropriate (safe) maximum discharge. This depends on the resistance you want to run at.

    -------------

Personally I use only AW batteries. I have 18650 30A batteries which enable me to build 0.4 ohm coils safely. However they run down a bit faster. I also have 8 -10A batteries that I use for builds above 1 ohm.

    -----------

If you post the resistance you want to build at I'll tell you what battery would suit you best.

    :)

    - - - Updated - - -

I should also add - it is dangerous to use a battery with high mah (life) but low maximum discharge (current) at too low a resistance.

The Panasonic 18650B mentioned above have a max discharge of 2.9 A. On a mech in theory they are safe to 1.44 ohms but I wouldn't take them below 1.6. They are a protected battery so should sop working if the current is too high but if they do not the effects can be explosive.

    -----------

All of this safety advice applies to mechanical mods. If you use a device with variable voltage or wattage (vamo, svd etc) there is built in battery protection. Also on a variable voltage/wattage device you need to use unprotected batteries as protected will not work at all.

that is good info--i have only created one coil and for the moment have no plans of going to anything less than 1.4 ohms. SO I will experiment around but I hope to be able do want I want at 1.5-2.2 ohms.
I do use standard coils that are well above 2 ohms also

    thanks

I forgot to ask: what device will you be using these with?

    --------------------

Fast-tech has started shipping batteries again & there is a company called Focal Ecig that will also ship them. Neither sells efest/AW so your best bet is to find a local vendor. Maybe Micky could tell you when he will be restocking.

    ---------

For 1.5 ohms: You can use any of the red efest/aw batteries in sizes 18650/18500/18490/18350. Longer ones have better battery life (higher mah). You do not need the 30A batteries 18650s (which have a mah of 1500/1600) just the normal imr high drain (AW = 2000mah Efest =2250mah).

You can also use Sony US18650V3, Panasonic CG18650CH [GOTTA RUN NOW - WILL FILL IN THIS BIT LATER TODAY]

For 1.6 ohms and up you have much wider choice: any of the ones in Micky shop will do you

(Battery sizes: 18 is the diameter in mm, 65 is the height in mm)

Seem to be struggling with editing my earlier post. For a simple & better (than my attempt) advice on batteries including specific battery recomendations please see this blog at ecf
