Let's say that you want to make a mod for commercial sales. How would you mark your logos on metal? I know about the laser machines that do it, but the ones that work on metal are several thousand dollars (Like $4k and up). I've seen the etch-o-matic Now Mark Metal Tools, Parts, Equipment In Seconds With Etch-O-Matic. but wanted to know if anyone had better ideas. Think CHEAP, but actually works. Thanks in advance.

Unless you plan to make a a hundreds of them, I would suggest to have them engraved by those small gifts/souvenirs shops in MBK or such, where they usually engrave dogtag or Zippo.

I am not sure if they can do on a round surface though.

This Etch-O-Matic seems like a good option despite the horrible webpage design. Would you have a chance to see one kit by yourself ? How much are these going for ?

The starter kits start out at $79, which is great. But the downside is that it is $79 which seems king of low for commercial grade stuff.

It does not have to be a state of the art machine. You can engrave metal with a Dremel, you just need a steady hand ^^

There is a lot of different kits and none seem to have a software interface, so I don't really understand how the machine can reproduce your logo/drawing accurately.

Etch-O-Matic will probably work as long as the design isn't too detailed. And, $79 isn't a bad starting price but you'll probably spend more over time for supplies, etc. You might want to look for a place in the SoCal area that offers laser etching on a piece basis (maybe a machine shop or a metal working shop). Might be more cost effective if you're going to be doing 100's...

It uses an electrostatic charge to etch the metal from what I can tell...

That is the engraving method, correct ? But how does the machine knows what to engrave/reads your file ?

    Yep...believe so.

You have to cut a stencil using their stencil paper...

There's a bunch of Laser engravers in SoCal area and they're not super expensive if you're looking to do a few hundred. It'll get cheaper as your quantity goes up though. You can even yelp it (i've been looking for a engraver who can work on ceramic, so far no luck). I've also just now realized this post is old as hell

Nikosan, don't worry how old it is, the help is nonetheless appreciated. I started looking at Socal laser engravers too. It's high if you're only doing a few, mass production is definitely cheaper to do.
