1. Welcome to Thailand Vapers, an English language forum for members in Thailand and the rest of Asia to talk about vaping.
Commonly referred to as e-cigarettes, vaping is really about the use of personal vaporizers (mods) and atomizers (tanks, clearos, RBAs, RDAs, RTAs) filled with e-liquid.
Are you looking to get started or an old hand at vaping? Everyone is welcome here so sign up today and talk vaping with us!

Hmmm, looks like a Kanger Subtank Mini on top of a 26650 mech mod. As noted in the story, operator error, no doubt. It looks like just the glass broke so where do all the critical injuries come from???
Sorry for the guy, though...hope he makes a full recovery

I read it but still do not understand what went wrong? Mostly because the e-cig pic is not showing any sign of battery explosion, just the broken glass... And I cannot figure out how a broken glass may lead to such injuries ! Some info should be missing... Anyway, hope he makes a full recovery

Not trying to sound insensitive, but I can't figure out how the injuries were so severe from just a glass break. I'm not even sure how this would happen. The Subtank is vented everywhere. There should not be enough pressure to build up and cause a tank to explode. What would have to happen to cause a tank to even come close to exploding. If the tank exploded while at his mouth, I would have expected to see some abrasions. These stories just don't seem to add up. But maybe I am missing something.

Ummmm yeahhh.... I'm calling B.S. I'm thinking it's more likely he fell and hit his head while holding his vaporisor. There is no sign on that mod of a violent reaction of any sort other than it being dropped.

Hope the guy is ok.. Hate these stories, some have to be true, but some have to tabloid crap. I really hope B.T. are spreading crap and people catch on. The pressure thing doesn't make sense. Mech mods are usually the undertone to these stories. :(

    Yep, always a Mech mod
You never see a ProVari, Innokin or anything with a Evolve DNA chip exploding...

I have no other commentm, but I will let Christopher Russell from Glasgow speak. He postet the following on Facebook, and the Danish Vapor union translated it even to Danish, but of course here the original text in English :

For any e-cigarette users who are worried by stories in the media about e-cigarettes exploding, don't be! Its terrible, misleading journalism at best and a scare tactic at worst. These media stories rarely give the full story or accurately convey how rare these events are. So, here is some context.

No electrical appliance (toasters, iPhones, hairdryers etc) can be used a billion times without something going wrong somewhere.
    Ballpoint pens kills about 100 people a year; 450 people die every year falling out of a bed;
and 13 people are killed every year by falling vending machines.

None of these stats lead anyone to call for pens, beds and vending machines to be banned.

In 2014 there were about 2.5 million Americans using an e-cigarette. Between 2009 and 2014, there were 25 reports of an e-cigarette exploding (20 of which occurred while they were charging), which resulted in 9 injuries and no deaths. Only 2 explosions happened while a person was using it. So, 2.5 million people using their e-cigarette millions of times, and only 25 explosions. This means that the chance of an e-cigarette exploding while you're using it is roughly 0.0000001%. You're just as likely to be killed by a falling vending machine than you are to have an e-cigarette explode while using it. But if you give up on e-cigarettes and go back to smoking regular cigarettes, your chance of dying from a smoking-related disease will be 50%. Which odds do you prefer?

Totally agree with the guy from Glasgow--and, I'm getting very tired of this Big Tobacco funded Media lead WitchHunt against Vaping--what next--???

Back to the above story--it's total B#@*%$#x--the glass has shattered, the Coil head is still intact, the Mech Mod is still intact--what the *%$#--he just tripped over and rammed the Ecig into his face, maybe???

Makes sense as one of a very few possibilities. Another possibility is that he received a healthy beat down for using that "steampunk" mod and they found him with it laying beside him after he fell unconcious.

Isn't that the same mod that featured in the Mirror article, with the ginger idiot.

And the e-cig vendor...too powerful a battery. The capacity is irrelevant, except in meaning that a big battery can cause more damage than a small one.

It's all made up stuff. Lying to put people off vaping.

What a top reporter. "E-cigarette explosions are not uncommon". Then has to go back three years to find two minor incidents. I'd say that is pretty uncommon. I'm going to keep vaping, and if I want to worry about anything, I'll worry about a coconut falling on my head, roughly 150 deaths a year.

Don't forget the 24,000 a year killed by being struck by lightning. Only 10% of people struck by lightning die. So 240,000 people per year are struck by lightning. Add in the coconuts, falling out of bed, slipping in the shower, etc. I'm too afraid to leave the couch now.
