Commonly referred to as e-cigarettes, vaping is really about the use of personal vaporizers (mods) and atomizers (tanks, clearos, RBAs, RDAs, RTAs) filled with e-liquid.

Why are not of these large wide open airflow tanks single coil?

you could always put just 1 coil in.
or get a subtank with a RBA coil, it has a great airflow.

I have many RBA tanks that do the job, however the latest really high airflow tanks are all duel coil. ie goblin, goliath, Billow... Putting in a single coil into one of these would add a lot of air that's not draw over a coil and take away from the flavour. It would be nice to see a mega airflow tank with a single coil.

not really much actually. the airflow might come from the bottom but none of the particles actually can pass through saturated cotton and the coil, the air simply goes around it.

First of all, the best flavor you will still get with drippers and as you know most RDA don't have airflow on the bottom but on the sides, what improves the the flavor most is a short chimney or in case of RDA no chimney at all, shortest way from coil to drip tip.
Putting a single coil on a base that can host 2 coils will not result in lesser flavor, the coil when heated will vaporize the liquid and the air coming from the bottom holes will carry all vapor that builds up in the chimney, very simple physics.
To understand how vapor is produced you surely have seen how it looks like when you fire up a saturated wick without screwing on the upper hardware, the vapor is released with pressure away from the coil, it is not the air that comes in from the airflow that is extracting the vapor from the coil. When you suck in the air through the driptip you empty the chamber that fills up with vapor regardless from where the airflow holes are.
I could go on like this, there are lots of misconception, also regarding shapes of airflow holes as many people believe that certain tips of shapes create swirls and that again is nonsense because the shape of the opening does not matter, what matters is the direction of the cut in the material that would create a swirl. anyways, that is offtopic.
Also note that the base for most RBA is a lot smaller compared to RDA, even a small dripper has a base a lot larger than what you have in a billow v2 and in most cases the air simply comes from the sides, it really does not matter much.

50% of the airflow would not be required, it serves no purpose.
    More airflow = less flavour.

Lol that didn't sound patronising at all.

Not forgetting that with one airflow unrestricted by coil or cotton it would provide more than half the air flow to the mouth and reduce the flavour and density of the vapour considerably. I like a more dense vape which is why Ive steered clear of the RBAs, RDAs that produce an airy vapour.

What interests me with a mega air whole and a single coil is being able to use a high ohm, longer coil with more metal directly above the air intake, this would provide low pressure high flow rate across the coil and give a more full vapour and flavour., without cooling the coil too quickly which can be a problem at higher ohms. This is the same method I use with cloud chasing RDAs to increase the flavour and reduce cloud mass.

Goliath V2 and the Goblin Mini are two tanks that have single coil options and fittings that close off one of the dual coil air holes as well as the juice channels. The Goblin Mini, despite the fill method, is a superb vape IMO. You do lose 50% of the atty's potential air flow though.

With these examples, there's some limitations with deck size but unless one were wanting 3 mm ID coils with something like 10 or more wraps, which to me is unnecessary and not an appreciable advantage over a slightly smaller ID coil with one or two less wraps.

Would be nice to see some newer, high-quality, top-fill, sub-ohm-oriented, purely single coil RTAs (not with optional RBA head). There's nothing of this sort on the market now that interests me.....actually not really wanting or needing one at the moment as I love my dual coil RTAs and the single coil RBA heads for some of them work really very nicely.

The Goblin Mini certainly has a nice wide airflow for longer coils, shame about the small capacity though. Lets hope there's more single coil options to come.

That's where the Goliath V2 steps in with up to 5ml capacity

The Cthulhu-RTA v2 comes with a dual deck and a single deck.

The single deck does appear to be designed a bit strange from the images I saw a while back.
It's completely flat but the airhole is substantially raised.
From the images it appears you would need to raise the coil quite a bit to prevent it from shorting out on the raised airhole.

Goliath V2 looks good also but its a round air whole, the wide oval ones look better at distributing the air flow along a longer coil. Ive been playing with the duel coil zephyrus, which is a beast when subohming at 40watts plus. Ive managed to get great flavour and density out of dual 1.6ohm coils at 20watts and would love a single coil version of it.

Yeah the oval shape would be nicer along with just slightly narrower juice channels to better allow for it.

I really like the Zephyrus as well and for the same reasons as you. I've only done sub-ohm builds on it though.

I had completely forgotten the Cthulu V2! That's a good option.

Yes its a great tank but with sub ohm coils(0.5) way too much for me unless im having a few beers and it needed high wattage to get it running. At first I thought it was only a cloud chasing mega airflow tank and I only bought it because it was on offer and something different. Even sub-ohming though the flavour is great. Then I set about trying to tame it and get it down to an ADV wattage and was very surprised. So Im loving it but too lazy to build 2 coils all the time lol. at 24 watts with 2 X 1.6ohm coils and the airflow closed off to about 1/4 its a lemo on steroids, lots of dense full flavoured vapour.

again, this is wrong logic, also the airflow is adjustable on pretty much any new tank and old tanks.
Where the air comes in does not matter much, what matters is how the air is moved, you suck it in via the drip tip, ergo you empty the chamber filled with fog. simple physics.
    **Updated**
it does not work like this, the wick does not restrict the airflow, the air does NOT pass through the wick, it is not possible to pass air through saturated cotton, period. The air simply passes around the coil and cotton. If your coil produces less vapor than 2 coil you simply need to reduce the airflow as it is adjustable on pretty much any mode that was not designed in the stone age.
People need to understand that the air coming out from the airflow holes does not serve the purpuse f carying the vapor into your mouth, the coil produces the vapor, regardless of where it is positioned, the airflow holes are there to prevent a vacuum as you would not be able to suck out the vapor from the chamber if it cannot be refilled with new air. The coil produces the vapor and you inhale that vapor.

It is adjustable, but 50% of the airflow is redundant no matter how open or closed it is.
Of course it does, you think the only role airflow plays is to assist in emptying the chamber?
Why do you keep saying that? Lol
