Purely speaking from a rebuildable perspective, but when a tank is laid on it's side for a prolonged period, or even just a few seconds depending on how 'bad' the wicking is, they can leak.

Quite a few atomizers require open channels to wick sufficiently but depending on how big those channels are, when laid on it's side, can be the difference between nothing happening and your tank dumping all of it's juice over the table.

How to know if yours will leak?

You need a full tank (actually you don't, tilting your tank 45 degrees should be enough to see if bubbles appear from the wick channels), simply lay your mod and atty on its side, if bubbles appear then it's a sure sign your tank will eventually piss it's pants.

You can always try laying it on the other side, you may get better results that way.

Pretty useless information but information nonetheless.
