OK--if you look closely at my Avatar picture, you will see that one of my Box Mods was a Vapor Shark rDNA30--well, it's not anymore; if you own a VS rDNA30, NEVER make the mistake of fitting the 18650 Battery the wrong way round. Yesterday, possibly in a barely woken fully state, I removed the battery cover, and unusually I had not removed the Atomiser, fitted the battery and immediately heard that the coil was doing something--heating up I guess, and I ripped the battery out IMMEDIATELY--too late, the Evlov Chip got fried--and that is that! !
These are High, nay Top, End devices and they have zero battery polarity protection--so, if you don't look carefully at the fairly hard to see '+' sign inside the battery compartment, and make a dumb, half-awake, stupid, mistake--you have just made a f**ckin' expensive paperweight.
If you contact Vapor Shark--they will kindly inform you that they do not sell components for self repair since they use these components 'in-house'. Also, to those who suggest 'just popping out the Evlov board and dropping another one in'--it appears that, since VS use a separate 'Daughter' board for the switches, that this is not for the faint-hearted--and defo not for a 'blind as a bat' old fart like myself.
Only option remaining, is an expensive postage to/and from USA to get Vapor Shark to, either repair for $80.00, or, the much more likely option of, Upgrade to rDNA40 for $99.00
I know that all of Vapor Shark users know that we are not supposed to reverse the battery--but, how many of us fully understand that this REALLY does mean curtains for the mod.
Be Careful, Please--you will really regret being such a **** when it happens.

The DNA 20 and 30 are well known for having NO reverse battery protection. This has been fixed on the DNA40 finally.

This is true for many clones of the DNA also, most of newer devices have reverse battery protection tho.

I still can't fully understand how it was not done in the first place for every single device with external 18650 battery..... no battery powered device on the market other than vape products fry when you put battery the wrong way. Even 1$ toys from China.

    I agree, LOTD.
Just as an update--I've checked out the options regarding postage ,etc.. and at a rough estimate--it looks like an Upgrade to rDNA40 inc.. Postage will come to around 4000 Baht., and just for the repair, which would not make sense, would be around 3400 Baht.
Unfortunately, it looks like the box will sit around in a drawer for the 'foreseeable'--Box Mods seem to be coming down in price, and decent boxes with Temp. Control can be had for this sort of price.
Needless to say I feel like a total 'W-Anchor'.

Very sorry for your loss haybilly.
Why is it that Vapor Shark is the only mod (afaik) that you have to insert the battery upside down? So easy to make a mistake in a half-woken state as you say or if you just forget. This is one of the reasons I always use the usb to charge the battery and I'm also lazy to remove the skin.

Yes, the SharkSkin--mine tore on one of the attempts to roll it back and take it off, treat them with care. I should have gone down the USB charging route more often.
Thanks for the words of sympathy.

Jeez, so not only does the dna30 have no battery protection but they also make it so the battery has to be installed opposite to the norm!! That's so stupid it should be criminal, WTF.

Real bummer haybilly, sorry for your loss indeed.

Sorry to hear that haybilly bro -- never owned a VS or clone thereof but by all accounts from what I've heard about them and just read here, it is quite unbelievable they would make the devices as such, esp. at that cost.

    Ha ha,thanks.
Actually the Postman arrived today with my second IPV MINI, not another 70 watt but the smaller 30 watt version-it was ordered from GB quite a while ago and I was wondering when it would arrive-so, I have a replacement for the VS rDNA30 - it's not in the same league but is still a good mod.
    Lucky day.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I guess if i had one mod out of many where you had to mount the battery upside down, from the rest of them, I would easily make the same mistake. I hope you get some replacement for it, at the moment as i see it it's even cheaper to buy something newer and better, than to get it repaired. But i understand it's a little bitter when it happens.

Absolutely, Dieter-the Vapor Shark is the Gold Standard but there are 2 or 3 Chinese made devices which give pretty good results for a substantial amount less cash - it just sucks to, probably, have to dump such a nice mod due to the cost of repairs.

@haybilly - very sorry to hear about this...it's a real p*sser when it happens. I rotate batteries in my rDNA30 at the beginning of each month...but never until I've had several cups of coffee. VS (and Evolv) screwed the pooch by not incorporating reverse battery protection into this mod/chip.

Maybe you could ask VS to just send you the new board (30 or 40) and you could install it (or have it installed). I bet Big or Micky would know someone that could do it if you didn't want to mess with it...

Maybe another posibility. I can imagine, how it must feel, to loose a mod that you have been really happy for this way. Must feel awful.

Just reread the OP...I know the folks at VS very very well (long story). I might be able to convince them to just send the components (main board + daughter board)...certainly happy to give it a go if you're inclined in this direction.
