Sorry guys, I don't agree with any of this...I think it's a completely daft idea to disable your smoke detector.

@pierdon - try pressing and turning to get the cover off.

Edit: According to the data sheet you posted, that model comes in 2, 3 or 4 wire versions, i.e., they're most likely hard-wired so you're SOL trying to remove the battery.

Just how do you stop all your Smoke Detectors from sounding, in your house, since you have several, SD?

And i pressed / turned every side of it without success...

Not really sure what to do then:

    -Plastic bag
-Contact the owner (pretty sure that's not a good idea as i don't see him turn his devices off just for the sake of clouds)
-Keep on vaping and set off the alarm once in a while.

    This...

Who knows, you may not set it off, and if you do, there's always the balcony or MTL vaping. ;)

What about the plastic bag on the detector only while working and vaping close to it in the daytime and remove the bag every night before bed.
This way the detector is only covered when I'm in the room and aware of any incident that might happen.

How does that sound to you SD ?

If you exhale towards the floor, you'll probably not have any problems. ;)

I have to say I agree with @Siam Diesel on safety implications of circumventing the smoke alarm, but it's your funeral.

One apartment I lived in in London has a mains fire alarm system, occasionally it used to go off with smoke from the cooker ... But that was heavy smoke, from say something cooking in the oven that had been forgotten about.

I think the toaster idea would work, then you have a plausible reason for having set it off, in order to test if you can set it off.

Also, there are portable air filtration units available in places like powerbuy. I have one and it clear the air pretty quickly.

    Totally agree.
The condition for any detector to trigger is to get the smoke particles inside the detector chamber. As someone wrote, the vape has very limited lifetime measured in seconds, so just blow your cloud in the opposite direction, and it definitely dissolves before reaching the detector.
Also you could do a sly test. As the same type detectors should be placed in the whole building, find one outside your appartment and out of cctv reach, set your mod to 50W and blow couple clouds at it. See the result, draw your inference :)

I took off the plastic bag and I indeed use a combination of fan-placement and exhaling in the right direction.
    No incident so far.

Thanks a lot all for all your valuable inputs !

    Cheers :)

I set up one once on the ship. The detector was located right outside my office in the corridor. The one inside my office just above my head never went of though....? What i noticed is if the temperature in the corridor dropped the detector went of 3 or so times. If the temp was warm it never went of. In my cabin the detector never went of either so it can't be the density of the vapor but the Temperatur. On some ships were the detector is placed to close to the bathroom it goes of after opening the bathroom door fast after a hot shower. Same principle i assume?
