1. Welcome to Thailand Vapers, an English language forum for members in Thailand and the rest of Asia to talk about vaping.
Commonly referred to as e-cigarettes, vaping is really about the use of personal vaporizers (mods) and atomizers (tanks, clearos, RBAs, RDAs, RTAs) filled with e-liquid.

Sounds like more bad news for us. According to the article in the Bangkok Post today, the Public Health Ministry is planning another crackdown on us!

"The ministry also announced it will introduce tougher regulations on electronic cigarettes from the middle of the year."

They continue with their 'ostrich' approach to e-cigs (to put it kindly). They must've missed all the research from the UK about this... TiT :(

Seems they have got no idea and make up the facts themselves?
Do they know many tourists already smoke E-Cigs and won't come to Thailand if it's illegal.
Time for Thai Vapers to fight back a bit there's not much we can do.

“The government will increase the tobacco tax from July 4 in an effort to curb smoking, particularly among low-income smokers”

The government will increase tax revenues by targeting smokers in general. Low-income smokers will simply switch from regulated Krong Thip (90 Baht the last time I looked) to unregulated Tra Meow (10 Baht the last time I bought it).

Electronic cigarette is misnomer. It should read personal vaping device (PVD).

“…smoking incurs huge economic losses through the budget spent on treating people suffering from smoking-related illnesses.”

Get smokers off smoking tobacco, improve health, save money. Get the smokers to take up vaping instead.

Where did the head of Chulalongkorn University's Drug Dependence Research Centre, Jitlada Areesantichai, look for evidence to support the popular belief that smoking electronic cigarettes vaping can help wean a person off smoking conventional cigarettes? It’s not a popular belief! It’s a FACT!!!!

Is nobody going to challenge her? Unfortunately as a foreigner living here as a guest on a visa, I have no recourse to do so. We need a Thai patron saint of vaping to defend our cause.

“…e-cigarettes PVD’s are imported and sold illegally, mostly through websites.”

Legalize it, control it and tax it. It is only illegal because it is banned. Increasing the tax on tobacco will lead to illegal practices too because smuggling tobacco from neighbour countries will become more profitable for the individuals who do it.

“…motivates young people to try out the products.”

Put an age restriction on it same as with tobacco products.

“This leads to many more becoming addicted, she said.”

Don’t blame the kids – blame the parents for not looking after and educating their kids.

And more BS and more BS and more BS in the following paragraphs…….

There are a couple of Thai FB groups working on this...can't wait to read their comments about the article.

Don't give up hope, all is not lost...but it may get worse before it gets better (but I'm a perpetual optimist). :)

Haha yea don't worry importers will always find a way to get their products through but will have to share Benefits a bit more.
Will be interested to see what the new regulations are as you can't get much tougher than Illegal. haha

In the meantime they should try to get the Bangkok Post to look at our side of the story too. As always, they seem to be very one sided.

I'm a curiosity, I'm a curiosity !! Waw. But sadly all this remind me of a so called Danish expert, who was the head of the Danish Cancer Institute. Today she is luckily all gone, and the Danish Cancer Institute now has a beginning dialog with the Danish Vapor organisation, but it certainty took more than 4 years to accomplished it. They have found out same as England, that it is all about "harm reduction" and no no no, it is not "warm instruction" in thai.
