Hi. Need help here. I have as of yesterday tried to recoil some of my protank coil heads but without any success. I end up burning the tip of the rubber grommet. I have no idea why. My last attempt, I believe it did not burn the grommet but the taste was bad. Also experiencing lots of flooding. Any advise?

    This is my setup:
    2mm silica wick with .20 Kanthal A 32AWG (6 loops, evenly spaced)
1mm silica wick as flavor wick (2 pieces)

I get an average of 1.8 - 2.0 ohms. On my last attempt, the base and connector between protank and evic got really hot. Watched various Youtube videos and I cant seem to figure out what Im doing wrong.

By the way, anyone know where I can get a kitchen torch to burn off my coils and wick?

I decided for some strange reason to try out the Pro Tank 2 again last week, I had previously had one but got rid of it as i didn't like it.
Anyway, I wanted to try again, so I got it, filled it up, vaped it and then put it away again.
The performance is nothing compared to the iClear 30 tanks imho, so that's me and my Pro Tank 2 situation.

    Sorry for not helping.....

I have a protank2 rebuilded with mesh, works fine no flooding, i found out that it can flood if you dont fill it up till it is full, also dont open it and close without filling it up, you can try too put a wick around head on the outside it will help the flooding.

Managed to purchase a torch in one of those small shops selling knives, sun glasses, nail clippers, etc. Tried a recoil today and managed not to burn the rubber grommet. I had to bend the legs near the top to be sure it does not touch any other wires when inserted to the coil body. No rubber taste or any other strange unknown taste. Also added two more flavor wicks (4 total) and it might have solved the leakage problem. Ill try to put the wick around the head as suggested. Thanks for the suggestion. Might try an ss mesh in the future.

another good tip for the protank 1/2 well all bottom coil tanks is if you get dryhit or low flavor, just blow a little air in the drip tip (overdo it and it will flood) works great and gives alot more flavor on some juices. :vaping:

Yup. I do blow a little air especially after a refill. I think I have found a setup for my recoils that works well with my materials. I do 5 loops instead of 6 and do a double fold on the legs to lower the resistance. I get an average of 1.6 - 1.8 ohms. I still need to add 4 flavor wicks though. Anything less will flood the coils. Comparing my recoils and the original coils, I think the wicks I ordered from Germany absorbs the juice twice as much as the originals. It wicks look like jelly strands.

My rebuilds ends out at 2.5 ohms, iam using a vw device and most of them handle higer ohms better than low ohms, do you use Zivipf Onlineshop for silica wicks ?, i get all my wick/kanthal/mesh from there relly good stuff:vaping:, what juice do you use, pg/vg ratio ?, my home made juice is thick, looks a bit like gele when cold, so i dont have any flooding problems.

Guess we order from the same place. The reason why I am currently going for the lower resistance is because im using the Magneto mod. The Smok Kick clone has not yet arrived. But once it does, ill add an extra loop to coil head to give me more resistance. Currently my evic can handle the low resistance but yeah, also I also think it performce better at higher ohms.

I order my juice from vapor mist @ 50/50.

I'm gonna have to try this one !
What wire you're using? Can you show a pic of that build?

As you are using a 32awg, I should be able to add 1 more loop @30awg while keeping similar resistance
(higher awg = smaller diameter = higher resistance, am I correct?)

Im using a .20 Kanthal A 32 AWG wire. Before, when doing a fold in the legs, 6 loops will give me something a little over 2 ohms. But on my last recoil I tried doing 6 loops but with tighter loops and managed to get 1.8 ohms. I have no idea how it performs though. I just started to recoil as of yesterday so Im just a newbie at this. So far I'm puffing away on a 5 loop with a folded and twisted legs setup. No problems at all. The fold on the legs help prevent any burns on the rubber grommet since the thicker it is, the less resistance there is. I noticed this also in the original coils. If you look closely you will notice the legs are thicker than the top coil and you will also see the part where the two are soldered together. The photo below shows my current setup.

I believe the original coils use 34 awg with 6 loops giving about 2.5 ohms. Using 30 AWG will with 6 loops will definitely be ok. Maybe it will give you around 1.5 - 1.7 ohms?

Thnks for the picture and explaination.
That thread pops up just at the right time as my PT2 coil just broke this week.
I'm also new to rebuild/recoil, so your pic gives me a good model.
    Cheers

i just did around 12 wraps of 28 gauge kenthal with cotton, it came at 1.7ohm, damn it hits so much harder than the normal coils.

I watched this guy on youtube, he explain steps by steps
