what is the best advice anyone would suggest on going out of BKK with a vape mod I’ve got an ijoy purchased online by a Thai vape shop

On entry I had issues with unsealed alcohol due to Dubai’s error in duty free.
I had to have my bag scanned again and the vigilant customs officer clearly saw my vape but I think she let it go as I had just payed £50 for my alcohol to be checked in instead of going on with my hand luggage case I had to send the case into the cargo hold

Now when I’m leaving my fear is them A: confiscating it, or B: them arresting me even though I have a receipt which shows I paid my thai taxes on it and it wasn’t imported in the first place

The other option I have is to post it home to U.K.

    Answers please thanks in advance

It was imported without paying taxes, just not by you. I've never had a problem carrying everything in my hand baggage, but then I haven't left Thailand for a couple of years so things may have changed. I presume you're leaving through Bangkok. If you're not comfortable then post it or dump it.

Oh far too expensive to dump was hoping I could stick it back in the box and take in hand luggage

Posting sounds like the smarter option unless someone else who has left from Bangkok has better experience

Some people say as long as it’s packed apart it should be okay
But it’s all hit and miss with these reports

Don't understand this...did you go through the green line & they asked you to put your bag through the scanner? How do you know she saw your mod...did she say something to you? And how would TH Customs know that you paid £50 in Dubai (presumably) for your carry-on to be sent as checked luggage?
When you leave Thailand, you go through security screening. The screener's job is to make sure what you're bringing on the plane is safe for carriage, not to enforce the TH Customs laws. Confiscation is always a possibility but arrest is highly unlikely (as @SooKee has mentioned, you can't pay tax on a prohibited item).

If the iJoy has an integral battery, you can only bring it in your carry-on luggage. If it takes 18650's, you have to bring the batteries in your carry-on but you could put the mod in your checked luggage (which is what I do).

I just went to/from a small city-state south of here last week from Swampy...had 2 mods in my checked luggage (strongly suggest you plastic wrap your luggage...cheap security at Bt 150.) and the batteries in my carry-on along with an 18650 flashlight/torch. I also had a MiniFit in with my computer gear...no problems in either direction. YMMV :)

@Siam Diesel sorry just to clarify the situation
As I returned back through to be search again I had to have the carrier bag (hand luggage) scanned again
The screen observer pointed at what appeared to be the vape in my hand luggage
She turned to the lady who told me I had to check my alcohol in or leave it and they had a discussion about the object
It was this same lady that told me the cost of checking in my luggage, although she did tell me in baht ...

After their chat I got the impression that the First Lady let me continue, she looked at her watch and obviously she knew I had about 6 minutes to job and catch my flight

(That is the event and why I wrote what I did )

As for the advice you have given, that is perfect! ;)
I was thinking it’s only the batteries that create the problem. So place batteries in hand luggage and mod in suitcase
You’re advice is most appreciated and puts my mind at ease

Were you arriving into Thailand...or transiting BKK airport to catch a connecting flight to another city in Thailand?

I was arriving at BKK to travel onwards to Chiang Rai ... annoyingly I did see someone in Dubai with a bag sealed and thought why not my bag..

Then I forgot to use my pen vape in Dubai and dump it but no problems anyway

I read quite a few reports last night about the fines being issued and arrest being for carrying lots of liquid and mods , where it would look like import for sale

So I’ll sleep easy tonight after reading your advice and experi

You were lucky...you were dealing with the security scanners at the transit point, not TH Customs (passengers inbound to TH via BKK airport with a connecting flight to Chiang Rai clear TH Customs at the final stop). Their scanners can "see" batteries so if your mod had the batteries in it, they probably did see it...but they don't care. ;)

Enjoy your stay and be very cautious if carrying gear and/or vaping in public. TH Police are making a killing rousting vapers at the moment. :(

:unbelievable:OMG lucky I was worrying if BKK contact Chiang Rai haha and then I get a fine lol

Yes mate, I’m being more than careful after hearing so many farang getting on the post fines and a few arrests

A friend I know said it’s open in Pattaya but still farang get fines apparently okay for Thai Nationals to vape

All confusing so I’m staying safe and just vape in the garden and when out in the car at every check point it appears the officers let me and the wife go once I say hello

Haha me and the wife have an ongoing joke now at roadstops

Also thanks and yes I will enjoy, It’s hard not too really, when I usually live in england haha

That is a common rule not only applied to vaping. Welcome in Thailand buddy :)

Vaping is legal in China, and most cities have at least one well-stocked vape shop. Come north and join me here. The weather is beautiful!

I'm in the countryside, in a small resort town near Tai Lake. The air is great here too
It would be good to catch up though. Been forever since we last got together
