I was in a hurry and in a dark room and I inserted a battery into my Kanger subox in reverse polarity. The mod is fried. However the battery got really hot.

Is the battery likely damaged or still safe to use?

Likely damaged...would suggest you bin it and get a new one. Doesn't that mod have reverse polarity protection?

Im not an expert in any way but given the mod got fried and the battery got very hot I wouldn't take the chance for 350 baht or whatever a new battery would run you.

    Sadly not, it appears...

I wonder if the mod is repairable. I'll have to pull it apart and look, although the strong smell of burned plastic bodes ill...

EDIT: product literature claims reverse polarity protection, but my recent experience proves that's not true. Maybe I'm lucky and just a fuse blew

The Kanger Subox Mini is advertised as having reverse polarity protection. As I can attest from my experience, this is nonsense. In a hurry and in the dark, I put the battery in the wrong way around. It got very hot in seconds, as did the battery.

I stripped it down to see if it's repairable. Alas, not only did the heat desolder the connector from the 510 socket, it also melted the power wires and fried the main board.

Kanger has always = no thanks for me...
Not a fan of Kanger products and never will be.
Sorry for the loss but at least nothing too major happened and you're still safe and sound.
I'd say forget Kanger and get something different.

Luckily this was just a mod I use to dry burn new coils and not my daily use mod. I'm currently using a RX200, Evic Mini VTC and my DNA200 is on order...

I hate to think what would have happened if I hadn't ripped the battery out quickly. This is the result of only a few seconds of reverse polarity....!!!

That's interesting--since it does 'say' that the Mod is protected against this eventuality; have you been in touch with Kanger about this?
To be honest, I wouldn't expect them to do much but an explanation might be interesting.
I managed to do the same thing with a rDNA 30 Vapor Shark--so, it's not just the cheapo Chinese manufacturers that can be guilty--I believe that VS have since adopted Reverse Polarity protection--but, although I have 2 of their newer Mods I have not put them to the test--bit wary now.

No, I know, just saying it can be done with expensive Mods, also, if one has a bad day.
