1. Welcome to Thailand Vapers, an English language forum for members in Thailand and the rest of Asia to talk about vaping.
Commonly referred to as e-cigarettes, vaping is really about the use of personal vaporizers (mods) and atomizers (tanks, clearos, RBAs, RDAs, RTAs) filled with e-liquid.

Be careful what you wish for....

The ban was proposed to Thailands Cabinet (and passed) last November by the Commerce Ministry. Commerce is conserned about tax and trade, not public health.

The ban will not be lifted until a system is in place to tax (and regulate) vaping devices and e-liquid.

I'm not sure I want to see that happen. Currently the ban seems to be fairly lax in some areas and we're able to get whatever we need here at reasonable prices.

A tax may double the prices, and regulation may limit what we can buy.

A tax will no doubt be accompanied by stricter customs enforcement, and like analog cigarettes, you will be limited as to what you can carry in for personal use.

I'm sure Thailand will be looking at what other countries do before coming up with a plan. Looking at some of the ridiculous proposed state regulations in the US, some would limit what you can buy to only cig-a-likes and fixed devices, only cigarette flavored e-liquids, and tax on e-liquid, devices, and accessories as high as 95%.

^^^ I hear what you're saying...but giving the pros & cons, I'd still hope that they re-think the current policy and lift the import ban at some point down the road. Sends a good message to the rest of the countries in the region, Singapore included.

Of course I'd like to see it lifted too. But now that the Government has there fingers in it, I don't see it happening without taxation and regulation. I don't mind paying a reasonable tax, but I'm conserned that it will be excessive.

South Korea currently taxes e-liquid at 60 cents per ml. If Thailand adapted the same policy, a 30ml bottle of juice that we are currently paying 600 baht for will then cost 1230 baht.

I imagine that they make it difficult (and illegal) to make your own e-liquid too.

Doesn't matter how many laws Thailand has. Enforcement rests with the BiB. Most of them are poorly educated and can't remember more than half a dozen offences, enough to make their tea money. Even the official road checks only ever deal with helmets, seat belts and speeding. A farang vaping where he shouldn't would be far too much trouble to bother with IMO.
