I want to purchase some Ethyl Maltol, asked Chmeipn but they said they don't have it (even tho it is listed on their website).

Anyone knows where I can get it for a reasonable price?

How much of it are you looking for? A little goes a VERY long way...

 

The one listed on Chemipan was 100g for 178thb.

I was OK for it but they don't have it in stock, I will look at oversea distributors, thanks for answers.

 

I've got a jar of the powder I ordered from TFA a while back, if you just need a little bit to try I can hook you up. Are you trying to just use it as a sweetener?

 

Alibaba is your friend. You can get most of the chinese suppliers to send you a decent sized sample if you pay for shipping as well. Usually only takes a couple days to arrive, as a lot of them ship out of HK. Right now is a Chinese holiday so a lot of them won't be in the office until monday.

 

I intend to use it to remove the dry feel of my juices, I searched online and it seemed that was the easier wayt to do it.

I'm strongly considering placing an order to FW as their flavors seems cheap and maybe add a jar of Ethyl Maltol, what percentage should I use?

I am still waiting for my MtB flavours to get here (and try them out) before I put an order in to FW. The FW prices seem great, but I need to find out which flavours I like first (and I am assuming that MtB still use FW flavours).

 

You mix the powder at 10% with PG, so 1 gram to 10ml of PG, and warm it slightly while mixing it. I just stick the bottle in a bowl of hot tap water. Eventually all the crystals will dissolve. I'll quote a post I found on ECF to give you an idea of how to use it:

It really isn't sweet, its more of a flavor trick that makes you think its sweet. It really is very potent stuff, unless you are trying to go for that flavor I'd keep it at around 2% (mind you, this is already the diluted stuff, we aren't talking pure crystals), so you can see why I was wondering how much you were looking for. 1 gram would last you for half a liter of juice at 2%.

I've used it in 2 mixes that come to mind. 4% in a Strawberries and Cream (TFA) batch that I made up, it came out pretty good, plenty sweet. Nickycakes tried it, I don't know if he remembers. The second was a batch I made just with vanillin crystals and ethyl maltol, I wanted to make something plain and extremely safe when Dr. Farsalinos started that diacetyl study. I believe it was a 50/50 mix with 6% EM and around 2% vanillin (dissolved at 10% just like the EM) and it came out pretty tasty for such a simple recipe. Took forever to steep though, it didn't come out for several weeks. I just pulled it out and put a drop on my tongue, it tastes amazing now (like 6 months of steeping), I'm going to have to throw it on a dripper when I get a chance. Like a sweet vanilla toffee flavor, but very clean. Emmess tried it a few weeks after I mixed it up and he thought it was pretty good too.

PM me your info and I'll probably just send you the 10ml bottle I have mixed up, rather than trying to spoon out the crystals. Just be prepared, even just adding it to another juice you're going to have to do a bunch of shaking and waiting to notice a difference.
