    Everyone seems to like cotton for their rebuilds. Why is it preferred over silica wick?

    So am I correct that with silica you just wrap the wire on it, rather than using something like a drill bit to do the wrap and then thread the cotton wick in after?

    You can do, but for micro coils you do the exact same with the drill bit and thread the silica through the same as you would with cotton....

    What determines a micro coil as apposed to some other coil?

    A small tightly wrapped coil with all the wraps touching each other, as compared to gaps between the wraps...

    Best picture would be, this is a micro coil:"

    Where this wouldn't be classed as a micro coil, the bottom one with the big stick;

    And if I am rebuilding something like a Kayfun 3.1 or lite V2, will I be making a micro coil?

    So is the primary use of silica for rebuilding coils that were not intended to be rebuilt and can not use cotton?

    Not really, you can use cotton in any build, silica has been around for years, but then vapers found that cotton worked and gave great clean vapour and flavour so that's when the vaping world turned to cotton.

    Silica will last longer, you can wash your wicks and use them again, but you'll never get the flavour or vapour the same as you do with cotton

    I guess what confuses me is if everyone knows cotton is better, then why do they even bother selling silica? What's the market for it if no one is using it?

    I think silica is still in use for rebuilding the non-RBA atty ie. clearomizer.

    Before I stepped up to the RBA atty, I rebuilt the T2 clearomizer with silica wick and feel it's easier to build than finding the right size of dril bit to match the groove in the atty head.
