    Hi,

    I'm a newb who has just got a I stick 20W with a kangertech protank mini 3.

I'm having to change my coil once a week, as the taste is getting bad. I'm only vaping in evenings, maybe a refill or two. I'm keeping my Istick at around 8/9 watts. Being new (and lazy) I haven't been washing out my tank between refills.

When the taste gets bad, THEN I've been trying to wash tank but the taste is still bad.

Is it normal for coils to only last a week?
Do i need to not be lazy and wash tank with every refill?

Any other factors that can make the vape taste bad that I'm missing?

    Any advice kindly received.

    Bake.

I can't comment on the coils but the only time I ever rinse my tanks is if I am rewicking, or the previous juice I had in the tank is completely different and not at all complimentary to the juice I will be putting in next.

    1. Kind of juice

    2. One week is not a good quantity of measurement, everyone vapes different amounts, how many ml of juice would you say you have put through one coil?

    3. 8/9 watts is not unreasonable yet it is a little high. Remember with the istick20w they have some genius (sarcasm) way of computing the wattage so 8/9 watts may be more like 11w on most other devices. I usually vape my PT3 at around 6-7w on my istick20w. I don't vape it often enough to tell you how long a coil lasts, but I would venture to guess maybe 50ml or so, but that's just a guess.

eventho i am not a tank guy but due that i build my own coils only. and i vape at high 50-100w.

so first we need to know what juice it is. different juices have also different reactions on the coils.

then you mentioned you only vape at evenings. + a refill or two? how many hours is that and that would then also logicaly mean you are non stop chain vaping.

A refill or two every night is not much, 2ml/day and a coil should last far longer than 10ml.

Again like they said some juice may cause this. The only other thing I can think of is that the previous poster mentioned chain vaping. At your semi high wattage for those coils and poor airflow, you need to make sure you don't chain vape it to where you're getting burnt hits.

It is a possibility that you are hitting it too fast, and you don't need to do this many times, but a pull at your wattage with a dry wick (or just semi dry but needs time to soak up more) will likely burn the wick a little bit. Do this too much and it will probably affect the flavor of the juice.
I've done this in both your atomizer and my RDA, but it's not all that easy to do, you will just need to slow down your chain vaping a bit or use a different atomizer better suited to your needs.
This is a total guess you can take into consideration, but you really need to give more information for us to be able to help more.

I'm not really using them anymore but I too didn't have best of luck either with ProTank3 mini/Aerotank coils -- a lot of duds and others rarely lasting over a week. Have had really good luck so far with Subtank Mini & Nano coils (both 0.5 & 1.2 ohm), usually getting 2-3 weeks from each before taste starts going (and only had one so far, knock on wood, that kind blew out early after about 8 days).

I never had any luck with Kanger tanks...not sure if they've improved the technology in their coils to the same extent that Aspire has but as David has noted, you should be getting more than 10ml of juice from a coil. I also think he's on the right track with the iStick 20w running hotter than the indicated power...if the wicks aren't staying properly saturated, they'll burn and the taste of the juice will turn bad very quickly.

You might try turning down the power and/or changing to a different tank...the Aspire Nautilus (BVC coils), Kanger Subtank Mini/Nano or Joyetech Delta II are all well-liked by many folks on here and can take more power than the PT3.

I have personally used the PT3 through a couple of coils, I got around 30-50ml, sorry for the large range but it was hard to keep a good accurate track the way I use them. But definitely A LOT more than 10ml. I noticed once I had a coil that had been used quite a bit already (at least 30ml+), but I chain vaped and got a burnt taste that never went away, so that killed my coil early possibly (or it could have died of natural causes, who knows with these things).

I think i've nailed it. My coils are 1.5 Ohm, and according to "doiscountvapers" website I've been putting too many watts through the coils. lasting much longer now I've turned it down to "6 watts" on PT3. Thanks all for you're input.

Maybe you can push it to 10 to 12 watts without damaging the coils, I know that's what I would do on a 1.5 ohms build.

Try it on a few coils and see if it affects the life. Unfortunately there is not a ton of research done on this stuff, so a lot of it is guessing and trial and error.

That would work on a DIY 1.5 ohm coil, but probably not on a stock Kanger PT3 coil...and since the iStick 20w pushes more power than indicated (owing to it being tuned for mean voltage instead of RMS voltage), it'd probably burn the coil at a higher setting.

I went back and re-watched the PB video on the iStick 20...he talks about this 'overpower' phenomenon starting at about 25:10.

Thanks for that, I knew it was a higher power than most people are used to, but the whole explanation of the variations of the calculations goes over my head :lost it:

Like SD said, would not advise it on that kanger. I don't know what most people do, but I tried 8W and felt it was better around 6W. But for sure try and check to see if it lasts longer at 6W of course.

    Sawadee to all,

I am a newbie on this Forum as well as with vaporizing. About 4 weeks ago I bought my first set which was supplied with 5 pieces of spare coils EVOD 2,2 ohm. Meanwhile I used all of them, each time when the taste turned bitter. So I presume that those coilsd do not last very Long.

Anybody an idea where I can buy replacement coils?

    Many thanks in advance
