Innokin iTaste VTR. Review by a newbie.

I started vaping a few days ago and it was suggested that I do some reviews on the new MOD's and Clearomizers that I got from Micky. (Many thanks Micky). So here is my take on the iTaste VTR. Price from Micky's shop: 2400B. (Sorry if it is a bit long winded, inaccurate, inarticulate or boring, but I have never done one before. Any suggestions for improvement are very welcome)

(Any incorrect use of terminology in this review is entirely the fault of someone else.... Anyone else.... I don't care who!.... Just pick someone, OK?)

I'm not going to go in to what it looks like and exactly where all the bits and bobs are because I don't think it necessary, and it will take too bloody long to type it out.

Two things I will touch on are the size – 22.2 x54.4 x 106 mm according to the manual - and weight – 363g with battery - if one review I watched is correct - of this unit. EVERY review I have watched on this MOD has criticised it as being to big and heavy and most suited for the construction site because of its apparent strength and durability. Well I like the weight and size. It has a feeling of substance and durability to it that I enjoy. Granted I'm not exactly a small bloke, but it just feels good to me. I may need to tighten my belt a notch to carry it, but it is saving me a gym membership.

    First some specs:

    Variable voltage - 3.0V – 6.0V adjustable in 0.1V adjustments.
    Variable Wattage – 3.0W – 15W adjustable in 0.5W adjustments.
It takes 1 x 18650 battery. This does not come with the kit so if new to all this, like I am, don't forget to get some good ones and a good charger as well.
    Fitting 501 thread clearomizers.

    OK. How it works.

Once you have charged your battery, move the small, battery cover release, on the bottom of the VTR to the side and the battery cover will pop open nicely. Once the battery is in, + terminal first, just push it closed again. Simple, easy and effective.

As you close the cover the display window on the left will show a, green, yellow and red light, in that order. Also the main display window will show 88.8 in blue LED. The unit is still turned off.

Before you go any further you need to attach your 30s, filled with juice. This goes in the recessed area on the right, directly in to the rotational wheel. To do this, it is best to hold the wheel still and screw on the 30s, as opposed to turning both at once, as there is a risk of over tightening and the clearomizer getting stuck in place. I have done this, Ooops, and it is a right royal pain in the ass to get it lose again, without using something like needle nosed pliers, as there is a very limited grip on the tank itself, because of the recessed positioning. And yes, it is true that the tank will move from side to side and feel a bit wobbly if you get a hold of it and wiggle it around. But in general use, it feels firm and stable – even when using the extension. (Note: I have the older version of the VTR with the rotational wheel. The newer models, filtering in to the suppliers now still have the wheel, but it is fixed, and has 2 air grooves and a couple of holes cut in to it.).- If your particular tank does not fit, there is the extension piece so that any, 510 thread clearomizer, can be used.

To power up the VTR , go to the square power/firing button on the left hand side. Push this three times. The display above the power button will show the three colours again, but this time moving left to right as well. The main display will show “On”. (To power down the VTR push the button three times again. This time the display will, not surprisingly, show “Off”.)

Check the resistance of the coil in the 30s by pushing the small button in the middle of the top rotational wheel once. The manual is wrong, it says to hold for 2 seconds. If you push and hold the function button the ohms reading will remain displayed, release it and it will go to either watts or volts depending on the last setting. From new I believe it showed volts first. To move from volts to watts, or watts to volts for that matter push the button again. Whatever is displayed, volts or watts, when the display turns off, is what is being used by the MOD. To adjust the settings for either, move the wheel clockwise to increase and anti-clockwise to decrease. Again a very simple, easy and effective means to adjust the settings. I like it very much.

And now we get to the all important vaping. (Thank God for that I hear you cry)

To fire the device, just push the button on the left of the unit, and get sucking on the tip. The small display will light up, green, yellow or red to indicate that it is firing and what the battery charge is. Green - OK, yellow - getting low, and red - charge it up.

    And that's it.

All in all a very nice unit, designed for the iClear 30 range, in my opinion. I'm not sure about the rest of the iClear range. I have only tried one other tankon it, a Kanger Protank 3, and it is about 5ml shorter than the 30s. This means that the tip is very close to the main body of the unit and a bit awkward to use. But it does fit. Put in an airflow controller and problem fixed, I think you need one for the Protank 3 on here anyway. Other 501 compatible tanks may not fit due to their diameter. Also the 30s has a rotating tip. This is very useful as the unit comes quite close to the mouth.

Problems with the unit. Not many, I think.

The rotational wheel, specifically because it increases the risk of over tightening, on my older version. But as I said Innokin have corrected this issue and now I know, I won't do it again.

Bottom coil tanks, without a rotating tip, may be a problem as well, as most people, I think, would tip the VTR, quite a bit, to vape. I would assume that this increases the risk of dry burn when vaping, if you are reaching the bottom of your tank. Brilliant for top coils such as the 30s again. Minor POTENTIAL problem only.

Firing button position feels a bit off for me. A little bit higher or lower would make it easier, but then I am still getting used to it really. Very minor point down to user preference.

Good points. EVERYTHING else. Easy to set up, adjust and vape. Looks good and, in my opinion, feels great. A well designed piece of kit.

(I also think the presentation in the little “attache”case is pretty cool as well.)

    Enough said.

great review !! Let another newbie come with a comment. I too love this device and I bought a airflow control from Micky the best 90 Bath ever spend. Screwing this on the VTR beside that you now can control the airflow i aso got a bigger surface to place my thumb on when I unscrew a tank. The last benefit is that i now can use some shorter tanks without having to use the somewhat big adapter.

Thanks Dieter. Don't have an airflow yet so couldn't show that.

Had a look at this tank on the net the other day and liked the look of it. Any good?

I have 2 of the tanks pommyb, and I actually like them. They are plastic tanks, so it's not al liquid you can vape on it, as I know. That said I like the tank. I bought it mainly because of the driptip, but the whole tank works fine if it has enough airflow. That is the critical point. It's fine on the VTR and it's a fine tank when you use it with an ego battery, because the tank is very light, so the balance is still fine. Mickey sells them for 280 Bath with 3 coils 1,8 2,2 and 2,5 Ohms, its a cheap tank to try out.

Totally agree with the firing button, It would definitely be better if it was higher up. It sits under my index finger, however using the index finger feels just plain weird. So I now have to hold it lower, not so easy the device is a heavy as hell.

Haha....I am with you on that one too. I love that case!
I swear if I ever sell this VTR. I am so keeping the case! :D

I'm waiting for the hand grenade to come to Thailand.

My mate Todd says it's the best mod he's ever held in his hand.

Strictly for home use, mind you.

Me too it's a mod only for 18350 batteries, but it comes with the new iclear 30B clearomizer a button dual coil from Innokin. Sad only the tank cant go into the VTR.
